Château Beaulieu is a wine estate, located in the middle of a valley covered with vineyards and woods in the town of Samonac.
In the center of the property is a magnificent Bordeaux Charterhouse which was built in the 18th century. At the end of the 19th century, the Beaulieu castle became the property of Emile Maufras. In 1904 he wrote a history of Bourg sur Gironde where he discovered in the vineyard an axe made of polished stone and powdered arrows dating from the Neolithic period.
It was in 2009 that Jodocus and Annick Boomsma restructured the vineyard, restored and modernized the cellars to make it what it is today. The vines are planted on hillsides and are oriented due south thus benefiting of a micro-climate, because of its situation in the hollow of the valley they are thus protected from winds and bad weather.
